One state far and away leads the pack in 2026 for both confirmed and reports of tornadoes. It's not the one you think.

Thousands of people are potentially within the path of an "extremely dangerous" tornado that has been confirmed on the ground.

Around 1,200 tornadoes occur on average in the United States each year and every one of them gets its own rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

This Grand Ledge tornado confirmed today is now the 21st tornado in Michigan so far this year. Most have been weak EF-0 or EF-1 rated twisters. But an EF-3 tornado that struck earlier this year was deadly. In all, four people in Michigan have died from tornadoes this year, and dozens more have been injured.

Thursday night was the greatest number of tornados northeast Indiana had seen in one storm in nearly ten years.
