Wednesday is a First Alert Weather Day as another rain of valley rain and mountain snow arrives and can slow or shut down travel through the mountains at times.
Tuesday and Wednesday are First Alert Weather Days for valley rain and heavy snow in the mountains that can heavily disrupt - or even shut down - travel between the Western Slope and the Front Range.
At 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service released a winter weather advisory in effect until Wednesday at 3 p.m. for John Day Basin and Foothills of the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon.
Temporary ski resort closures or terrain suspensions aren’t uncommon, particularly in the Sierra Nevada, where storms can produce feet of snow all at once. Ski resorts need time to mitigate avalanche danger, which spikes when large amounts of snow fall. High winds can make it unsafe to operate chairlifts, too.
